Are you planning a business operation to Mexico City? Are you aware that MMMX is not open to non-scheduled flights?

The Mexican Grand Prix takes place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, a 4.304 km track located in Mexico City, from October 28-30. Practice gets underway on Friday, October 28, qualifying on Saturday, October 29, with the main event taking place on Sunday, October 30. Here’s what you need to know before planning an operation to Mexico City.

Operational information

  • Overflight and landing permits are necessary for both private and non-scheduled flights
  • Normally there aren’t any parking restrictions, however, slots could get tight during peak times during this major event

Important notes:

  • Mexico City/Lic Benito Juarez International (MEX/MMMX) is not open to any non-scheduled flights (unless it is a diplomatic flight)
  • All non-scheduled flights must go to Toluca/MMTO
  • Toluca International Airport is a 65km drive from the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City

Immigration

  • Some countries require MEX VISA, however, E.U. and U.S.A. citizens do not require MEX VISA
  • Passports of passengers and crew members cannot be less than six months from expiration date
  • Check with your embassy to see what your country requirements are

Customs

Import

  • 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or 200 mg of pipe tobacco for those over 18 years of age
  • 3 liters of alcoholic beverages for those over 18 years of age
  • Perfume, eau-de-cologne, and lotions for personal use only
  • A camera and 12 rolls of film
  • Goods worth up to USD 300

  • Uncanned foodstuff
  • Canned pork and derivatives
  • Earth, plants, flowers, fruit, seeds, and materials of vegetable origin

Export

  • Tobacco and alcohol
  • The export of archaeological relics is prohibited

Note:

  • Crew is entitled to bring along only clothes, personal hygiene items, and items necessary for work
  • All international luggage is screened inbound and outbound
  • When the passenger takes his/her baggage to customs and it’s screened, a red light indicates they must open their baggage for clearance and a green light means they’re clear to go
