“Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” –the theme of Expo 2015, set to place in Milan from May 1 to October 31. The venue is located just northwest of the city of Milan and occupies 110 acres of land. Whether you are traveling from within or outside of the EU, or are an EU citizen or not, we’ve compiled some important information you’ll need to get there.

Italian Immigration

Non-EU passengers:

  • Some non-EU passport holders are allowed to enter and remain in the European Union for up to three months without a visa. It’s important to check whether your nationality is included in this category prior to your trip. For more information see http://ec.europa.eu/

EU passengers:

  • A Passport or EU country ID allow for a stay of up to 90 days without visa.
  • An extension of stay is possible for visa exempt visitors.

Non-EU crew:

  • A Passport is required.
  • All crew members are required to be listed on a General Declaration and hold an airline identity card.

Note: Passports or any passport replacing documents issued more than ten years prior to the date of travel will not be accepted.

EU crew:

  • A Passport or EU country ID and crew airline ID are required.
  • An extension of stay is possible for visa exempt visitors.

Italian Customs Rules

Free import applies to passengers arriving with goods purchased within the EU which are for personal use only. Details on quantity restrictions can be found at http://ec.europa.eu/

Note: Products of animal origin that don’t originate from an EU Member State, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino or Switzerland are not permitted to be brought into an EU Member State. There is also an exception of limited amounts from Andorra, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and small amounts of specific products from other countries.

Baggage Clearance

Baggage is cleared at the airport of final destination in Italy.

Crew baggage is cleared in the arrival hall of the crew building.

Airport Embarkation Tax

No airport tax is levied on passengers.

Currency

The local currency is Euro (EUR)

In the EU, the same regulations apply for currency import and export.

There is no restrictions for Euro and other currencies if you are arriving from, or traveling to, another EU Member State.
If arriving from, or traveling to, a country outside the EU, amounts exceeding EUR 10,000 or the equivalent in another currency must be declared.

Note: Third Country Operation Rules – TCO

New European regulation for extra-communitarian operator regulation (EU 452/2014)

Operators must apply to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for a TCO authorization process before the end of the transition period. The transition period runs from May 26, 2015 to November 26, 2016.

EU member states reserve the right to deny the issuance of operating permits to operators who cannot prove they’ve applied to EASA for a TCO authorization.

Event Location

Expo 2015 is taking place about 15 km (about 10 miles) northwest of Milan.

Covering an area of 1.1 km2, the site is located in the municipalities of Rho and Pero, adjacent to the Fiera Milano fairgrounds.

Transport

The Expo 2015 site and the Fiera Milano fairgrounds are connected by a pedestrian bridge to the Rho-Pero high-speed railway station.

The Milan subway’s Rho Fiera stop of line 1 (red) connects directly to the city center.
