Cairo’s New Sphinx International Airport: A new international airport, located just outside Cairo and serving the city of Giza in Egypt, will soon begin an operational trial period.

Sphinx International Airport
  • IATA Code: SPX
  • ICAO Code: HESX
  • Coordinates: 30°06′35″N30°53′40″E
  • Elevation: 180 m / 591 ft
  • Runway: 2km/1.2 miles
  • Time zone: GMT +2

Located on the opposite side of the city from Cairo International, Sphinx International Airport will ease pressure on the main airport and accommodate international travelers visiting the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and the Great Pyramids of Giza.

The airport’s terminal has a capacity to receive 300 passengers and will open to commercial flights in summer 2018.

Future plans include expansion to accommodate cargo services.
